January 2021 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Alright, I’ve got a bit of a situation I could use some help on. There’s a pullet egg under my broody that I forgot to check yesterday, and I took a look at it today and the air cell is saddled. It also looks too big for day 8 to me, but that may be because of the saddle. It’s definitely developing. I’m trying to get candling pics but my phone is my usual candling light. I’m debating if I should just leave it under the broody and see what happens, or if I should put it in the incubator with higher humidity and give it back at lockdown? I have no experience with air cell issues.

I will be setting Eggs next weekend for a hatch date of January 10th. Lets hope this new year is better than 2020 ended up being.

I will be setting more Aloha eggs and White Americana eggs.
Awesome! Your chicks will hatch 3 days before mine will. :)

Six beautiful baby buttons in the brooder bin

. One last egg still alive, but not pipped as of day 18. Letting it stay in an extra day; nothing else really to be done.

BTW, these gorgeous babies come from @Nabiki. We are doing the button quail happy dance here!

I'm not sure what you mean. Is it with other eggs? You're concerned about the saddling but not it's other development?

I've had some wonky air cell over the years. Not just shipped eggs my hens too. Sometimes they hatch, sometimes not. I candle to avoid them now but that doesn't help your situation.

If it's with other eggs of the same age you don't have anything to lose leaving it be. Even if the air cell is large or misshapen. Broodies know what they're doing.

I just put a test run in yesterday, for fertility. Only six Light Sussex eggs, because the coop is full up until spring. Then I will be processing some for the freezer, and getting into bigger batches!! By then the young ones should be laying as well.View attachment 2482172
I love your incubator. Super fancy. How do you like it? I think you have a couple hatches under your belt with it.

What is your green thermometer? Did it come with the incubator? The ones I use are on flimsy plastic. They're accurate but getting rather old. I'd definitely look into one like this when the time comes for replacements. Looks solid.

Unboxed and ready to rest. G-Bear Farms was amazing to deal with. I've reached out to them twice before about eggs but it never happened. Once was March '20 right as Covid was blowing up. Then again during the summer when they had already broken down their breeding groups for the year. All that anticipation made GBear top of my short list to buy from this year.

Best packed eggs I've ever received. Foam shipper with foam top and bottom, box within a box, more 3" thick foam around that, then the external box. All 32 eggs arrived intact. G-Bear sent a generous 4 extra per dozen ordered (filled up the shippers).

It's hard to believe but these eggs are even more beautiful in person. :love The darkest eggs are actually from the Splash pen!

It’s with the other eggs and is the same age. I just forgot about it and when I candled the other eggs under the broody I didn’t see it. The development looks good, I’m just not sure how to handle the saddled air cell. I want to give it the best chances, if that means leaving it alone with the broody then that’s what I’ll do.
