now, another question. I have a friend that is a poultry vet, and he mention vaccinations for Marek's as well as coccidia. I've never vaccinated my chicks that I hatch, not do I typically feed medicated feed. Do any of you vaccinate or feed medicated? I guess I assume that since my older birds are healthy, my chicks would be also...thoughts?
I'm certianly no expert, but what I've heard is that if you have any other birds in your flock that are less than 5 months old, you will have to vaccinate them too, and ANY other babies you hatch will have to be vaccinated from here on out. No one that I know vaccinates around here, and I haven't head of any problems, but I know it's a chance I take.
I set 30 eggs on the Jan 3, so I'll be hatching with you
I have Barnevelder project crosses with 20 "Blues" and 10 "Cornevelders" in the bator. They'll hatch just about 1/2 way between my two kid's birthdays (both born in Jan). The kids love to watch the chicks hatch and sit for hours watching. I'll hear..."Mommy, Mommy another chicky is pipping, I see a pip, come see" for just about every chick
