January Hatch Buddies?

Good Morning,
I got a Brinsea Octogon 20 with auto turner and humidity pump for Christmas. It has been burning a hole in my pocket. I finally got 13 BLRW'S and 6 lavender Orpingtons from a semi-local BYC'er. We had to drive 5 hours total to get these eggies! We have also gathered 6 of our EE eggs and 10 from our 2 buff Japanese bantams. We finally set all these this past Friday and expect to have a hatch on January 28th!

This is my first hatch so I hope I don't regret splurging on those high dollar eggs I just had to have. I am counting on my Brinsea to be somewhat idiot proof. Anyway, can I join in on your hatch?

Thank you newlyweds. Appreciate it. Just trying to do everything right. We are expecting sleet and ice tonight. Praying the power does not go out cause worried what will happen to the eggs. I worry to much. LOL:bow Thank you again

don't know. I live in Ga. Ice on our lines or even snow could hurt. Don't want to lose my eggs. Been wracking my brain all day. I have a propane heater to heat a room but not for the incubator. I am just going to keep praying. Good luck. Hope you don't lose power. Let me know:fl

I am starting a test hatch tomorrow just got 42 beautiful silkie eggs to put in the incubator in the morning once I get my incubator temp set.

This will be my 1st winter hatch I have always hatched in spring and summer I am really excited!

My question is is there anything different I should do in the winter hatch? With the humidity? Any info from winter hatches would be great!

Winter is much drier than summer, so it will be more of a challenge to keep the humidity right. Also, bators don't work that well in very cold rooms, below 70*, so temps may fluctuate more. The little metal lever on the thermostat transfers cold and makes the wafer turn on the heat during the night when temps are cooler in the room so it may send the temps too high. Cover that lever with a hand towel or something like that and it helps. Most of my hatches have been in fall and winter, it seems.

I am so excited, so I locked down 13 eggs this morning, and I already have 3 pips, yikes. I usually have early hatches, but not this early!!! Each hatch is always so fun!!!
