January Hatch Buddies?

Yay! my incubator is here!!!

I can't stand it I'm so happy. Gonna run it tonight and hopefully put the eggs in tomorrow night. I don't know how long to let it sit to regulate??? It's a genesis hovabator. It's got an auto turner and supposed to be factory set to correct temp and all of that. Any thoughts on how long it will take to regulate? I don't want to wait too long because eggs have been in transit for like 5 days total and resting for 2 days today.

Congrats on getting your bator! It is really hard to say how long it will take to regulate temps and humidity. But with it preset and a small one, I would guess you could get it done in 24 hrs, no problem. I have a large homemade jobber with lots of adjustments and it took like a week to get it regulated! Now I just can't turn it off right?

PS. Let it warm up for like 2 hours, then start checking temps and humidity. Set it up just how you will have it with the eggs in there. If you need to adjust things, adjust them then wait like 15 minutes or half an hour for things to settle before checking stats again. Good luck!

I'm putting a dozen Trader Joe's fertile eggs into one of my incubators tonight. I already have a dozen in another, with some BR eggs, due to hatch 1/1/10. But.... my first candling didn't look good and I really want to try to hatch some of these eggs, so I bought another dozen. They should be hatching around January 12th.

Yay my home made incubator is finally steady with good numbers on temp and humidity! I ended up having to put a large cardboard box around the top and 3 sides my incubator to keep the drafts down. I have a busy household with doors always opening and closing. Since I have put the box around it, the temp hasnt moved. I ended up putting 4 eggs in last night at 11pm. I will post pictures of my first candling results probably next week. I hope you all will do the same! Im excited for all of us first timers...and seasoned incubator folks!

i have a genesis 1588 hovabator, and in MY experience, it was easy to set up and regulate. they already have it set at the proper temp for you (or they should). and it says to fill the center reservoir with water....that's what i do....and it holds a pretty steady humidity of 38 - 40% till you have to fill it up again. and for me, that's about every 3 days....and it takes about a cup of warm water. when i 1st set mine up, i only had it going a few hours before i could see that everything was steady. good luck!

I'm still messing with the settings for temp and humidity. I worked a 12hr shift at work the last two days so I've been slow in getting a thermometer I trusted and the room set up just right and all that. I am planning to set the eggs tonight when my sons go to bed.. so hopefully in the next half hour or so

My Brinsea came yesterday while I was out of town, but my hubby signed for it.

Although now he's making me wait until Christmas to open it! Hahaha! I suppose I can wait two more days! Then I'm going to show up with bells on at the friend's place with the eggs. They are gonna love me showing up at the crack of dawn the day after Christmas! Tee Hee!
