Hatching eggs is truly addicted .. I only meant to set some quail eggs but somehow ended up w/ 11 chicken eggs in there too?!

I have pot luck Pekins and Silkies

Could be any color, either breed. Can't wait to see them.
I've noticed how addictive it is, I already waiting for my first shipment of eggs!

Plus I picked up some local eggs cheap for possible barnyard mutts because my shipped eggs won't arrive in time for the Chinese New Year hatch.
Shhhhhh Don't tell my DH, he's going to kill me if they all hatch!

Well hatch attempt #2 was a big flop

I opened the eggs today starting at the air cell so I wouldn't kill any if I was wrong.. but 11 out of 22 eggs had chicks, fully formed, and dead as doornails. The other 11 were just yolks.. stinky old yolks with no veining. The only thing I can figure is a couple days ago I went to visit my great granny about 40mins away for a few hours and when I got home the temp had spiked. You can imagine how frustrated I was since everything had been steady up until this point. I got it back down, but obviously the damage was already done. My boys are so devastated about it.

and so am I... Thank God I will be getting some broody hens from two fellow BYCers that replied to my wanted post. Next time I'm going with the Bio Bater.... The boys will have the adult chickens to play with and care for until they can try again for colored egg layers later. They want EE's so badly. I'll be on the lookout for blue or green eggs when the hens go broody. I want to cry

but DH swears that if I do he won't let me get any more eggs.

I am so sorry!!!! If I dont manage to kill all of mine you can have some of my chicks! Mine are due tomorrow like your guys were, I am losing hope for mine, Humidity isnt great like 70% But everywhere I look on here there is different advice on what to keep temp at and humidity for a still air lg.
hu.gif
I thought 99.5 was good and so thats were I kept it, but then I heard that 100.5 is what a still air should be. So what should lockdown be at? I have been struggling to keeps temps stable, It is staying 99.5- 100.00 I havent had a spike yet that I know of. But I adjusted it and probably will regret it. Does anyone know what to set it at for lockdown? Again mountainwisper my condolences. I will cry with you.

Have you candled the eggs? If so how were they developing? If they seem to be developing fine, just keep going the way you are.I have no experience with still airs,so can't help with the issue there.I know in mine I keep the humidity around 60 for lockdown.Put them in lockdown at the scheduled time, but give them some extra time for hatching just in case the temp was a lil low. With that lil bit of difference,it should only delay slightly. That happened to me with this last batch of chicks. My temp in the bator I was using for lockdown was slightly cooler(less than a degree). My chicks finished hatching a day late.Unfortunately I lost one in the egg cause I didn't help him pip...

Ok so I candled one today and I could feel it tapping but then it stopped I could'nt see anything in it, It was almost totally black except for the air sac. I am really nervous...

Thank you so much

I have always read 100.5 for a still air, so 99.5 might make your hatch a little late but shouldn't hurt anything at all. It would be better to leave it if it is steady and make sure that you keep your humidity at 65-70%. If you mess with it you might get a spike like mine, and 99.5 is a good hatching temp. Yours should be fine, can't wait to see pics of them. I'll be praying you get a good hatch
