But you don't have to tell them either thing, it's up to you. Technically it is supposed to be anonymous, though I don't think that ever happens!

I send a note telling what my hens and roo are, so that they have an idea of what to look for. Plus I put my BYC name and real name. I think it's nice to have an idea of what is going on, but some people keep it completely anonymous.

It is up to you if you put a note in the box spilling the beans or if you decide to wait. Your going to find out sooner or later anyway.
