I see lots of ways to trap Japanese Beetles (I have billions and billions) and then feed them to chickens. Some suggest instead of just letting them accumulate in a bag or other device, to let them drop into a pan with soapy water (to keep them from flying away?) and then the chickens can eat them ass they float. I want to make sure that exposing the chickens to soapy water will not be harmful to them as mine seem to drink the plain water as they enjoy the beetles floating around.
How many are doing something like this?
I will cross post this in hopes of getting quick responses.

We will be starting effort anew very soon once beetles start flying heavy here. If you have acreage where you can collect beetles away from valuable plants, then live beetles are likely best (first two threads). If confines are tight or you have more beetles coming in than the chickens can consume, then the conversion to a feed likely better (last thread).

Beetles are low on fat / energy relative to ideal feeds.

This year we will be doing this on a much expanded basis shortly involving actual research chickens in addition to my backyard fun.
