Japanese Beetles...yummy!

I got this reply back from Spectracide.

Thank you for contacting United Industries. The Japanese Beetles will be safe to feed your chickens as the bag kills the beetles through heat exhaustion. There are no chemical residuals left on the beetles. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.

I had fun the other day at the feed store watching some young chickens (4 to 8 weeks) play keep away with a Japanese beetle. It was something to see! They would chase the one that had the beetle, it would trip drop the beetle then there was a mad dash to see who could get it next. Much like watchig a soccer game.

Those buggers are on my blueberries and raspberries...I can catch them??

now I know.

me,

my girls are under the berry bushes in the back...blueberries.

I have caught thousands of Japanese Beetles every year in the plastic catchers with the screw top and sex lures. they just drop in. Today I checked them and they were both filled and overflowing. So I filled a bucket (5 gal) 1/2 full with water, unscrew the top and dump down into the water. I hose the inside of the catcher and dump also into the bucket and reset the traps. Then I cover the 5 gallon buckets with lids until morning. I did give them a couple hundred (I have 5 girls LI Reds and Barred Rocks). They chowed down and then seemed to get sick of them. But there is enough for treats for the rest of the week. I am hoping it doesn't affect their eggs. I let them out of their 25 x 25 foot pen to scour the yard and they head for the garden and my compost pile (everything in there is organic scraps, soil and mulch). They totally turn the compost pile for me. Then back to their yard for the night and into their coop. Life is good with chickens!. The guineas are not as interested in the JB's.

We take a bug net & catch our june bugs, when our chickens see us with the nets they make a happy sound, & come running.
Where do I find these bug bags? It may be easier to get than chasing june bugs
