So, I took a pail with some water in it and went around to the Japanese Beetle traps. I emptied each bag into the pail. Then I dumped the contents of the pail into the chicken run.

Feeding frenzy!!

My DD does that with the "night" beetles. She places a bucket under our light and in the morning she goes out and gives the chickens the buggy treat. The chickens love it!

Don't the Beetle traps have some sort of poison in them to kill the bugs or not? I thoought they did, but I never used them. If so, wouldn't that be bad for the chickens?

A bait above the bag lures the beetles. The bait is a scent attractant. The beetles drop down into the bag, and can't get out. They're still alive in the bag, for a time. They don't ingest, or come into contact with, any poison.

Has anybody tried just putting the scent attractant into the chicken pen? I thought about doing that next year -- maybe the chickens wouldn't even have to be let out to get the bugs!
