First Wounds. Are these serious?

How long should I keep her separated? How do I introduce her back into the flock?
TIA for all your replies.

I don’t have saline. I have povidone-iodine and have watered it down till the liquid looks yellowish. Will that work? I also have some ointment.

Hmm. I don't want to advise you on iodine, because I'm not sure if it could damage the healing tissue. You can get saline at any grocery store or pharmacy. I think you can also make it at home. (I've started buying a saline spray from the first aid aisle).

Someone else might advise you on the iodine, but please don't use it until you're sure it won't damage the healing edges.

I've had really good luck with Vetricyn. If it's very cold where you are, be careful about putting any product on her injury, as it could freeze on her.

Be careful keeping her separated too long---there can be aggression on return as they try to reestablish the pecking order.

Do you have like a large dog cage where she can be in the run, visible to the others, but safe from them?

I put her in a dog kennel and attached a nesting box to it inside my greenhouse. I will keep her here overnight and return her to the flock inside the kennel tomorrow. I did put ointment on the wounds. Hope it helps them by the morning.

What a great set-up!

I've made a large dog crate a fixture in my run. It makes it easy to isolate a hen (for example, to see how much they are eating in a day, or to know which poops are theirs) without having to totally isolate them.

I hope she continues her healing!
