Yes, they do not have a standard version. Japanese bantams are one of the only True bantam breeds.

Yes, they certainly do go broody. They are excellent moms and will keep laying well after middle age. Our black Japanese has raised at least five batches of chicks, and she never seemed to mind how fast they outgrew her. She's six now, and still lays the occasional egg.
