I have found it very hard to find people who are trying to persevere this breed and thought there should be a thread where people could talk about javas. I Will be buying some black java hatching eggs from a local breeder and I hope to start my own breeding flock, does anybody breed them? Do you have any advice for people who want to help conserve this breed? I have a few questions my self, next spring I plan on purchasing some molted javas from a breeder who lives maybe 1 to 1 1/2 from me, if I were to breed a molted with a black what would happen?

Hi,
I don't know but there is a Java Breeders Club out there.

I found the Java folk to be so friendly and helpful.
The modern foundation flocks are in Northern IL at the Garfield Museum and Farm.
Best,
Karen

Black to Mottled breeding will get you all black chicks for tge initial breeding.
This offspring breed back to Mottled and about half the chicks should be mottled.
Breed offspring together and you will get about 1/4 mottled, 1/4 black split to mottled and 1/2 black chicks.
