Java Chickens

Hi! I have a chance to get my hands on some Java chicken eggs (mottled or black) next spring.

I was hoping some of you could tell me your experience with this breed. Personality/temperament, how they do in the cold, confinement & free range ability, etc.

Mine are only 4 weeks old. They're beautiful and no more skittish than any of my other chicks.

I had a Mottled Java sold to me as a pullet back in April. But he turned out to be a roo so I couldn't keep him. I found him a new home at around 3.5 months. He was the sweetest of all my birds. The most affectionate and would sit on me all day and nuzzle in my shirt or perch on my shoulder like a parrot. My profile pic is of him on my head! So in my limited experience...they are wonderful, beautiful birds. So I am excited for you! Here are a few more pics of my beloved Velvet. I still love him.

They are great birds. If you're planning on breeding them, I'd absolutely get some as they need more people working with them.
