I am a breeder. I do use an incubator but I hatch out a few hundred chicks every year of which around half will be males. Here is a picture of my pens. I do have electric wires around my coops and pens, good heavy duty netting covering my pens and concrete under the gates all due to losses from predators in the past. Many lessons learned the hard way. I hope this will give you some ideas. My land is mostly open pasture so years ago I did plant trees in the pens and worked the netting around the trees.
