Hi everyone
I am new to this sort of website but I am chicken crazy. I can't get enough of them. I live in Windsor Berkshire England and keep chickens and ducks. I keep ducks by accident, my daughter who has learning difficulties bid at auction for them when I was busy buying other birds. I tried to stop her bid but the auctioneer thought I was bidding too. By the time I made it clear I did not want the birds I was scolded by the auctioneer and got bad looks from the rest of the auction. So we came home with two ducks!! They have been with us for three years now.
The other day I put some apples in the run for my hens to peck at. They were a bit hard and one of my bantams was having trouble getting into an apple. My rooster pecked bits off the apple and flicked it onto the floor at her feet for her to eat. ( I have never owned a rooster before so I was fascinated and amazed to see this) I love watching my chickens going about their business and watching their behaviour is to interesting and relaxing. My friends think I am nuts because I chat about them and tell my friends what they have been up but no one understands me as they don't keep chickens. I also keep Quail and they are so sweet and easy to keep and the eggs are so nutritious and make a great gift when visiting friends.
