Okay so I have a question, concerns, and just general wanna know why's..... So I have chicks that I believe are about 2 weeks old, 3 Buff Orphinton (these are the main meanies), 2 that look like chipmunks..., 3 Brahmas (smallest of them all), and 1 barred rock (I think)... okay so the buff orphingtons are just mean, every single time I open their brooder to change water, food, give them treats what ever they peck, peck, peck... which leads to the chipmunk look alikes pecking me... lol I need help yall.... okay is this normal or are they legit just checking me out? If they are checking me out I will stop threatening them with the frying pan (kidding of course), if they are being mean then.... I will still love them, but I have tried the whole hey don't be doing that nonsense with me cause I am bigger than you (tapping them on the back, head... ) they don't care... they come back for more and more and more.... so any advice would be much appreciated....

The Buff Orphingtons have started chest bumping also.... they may be closer to 3 weeks...

OK, do or are you wearing rings/jewelry? Or freckles or spots on your skin?

I have tattoos on my wrist and forearm, but I keep them covered (lol they enjoy pecking at them), it's mainly my fingers.... no fingernail polish, rings, or freckles....

Some do like to be a little aggressive starting at about the age you mentioned---Of course I do not wiggle my fingers-----they might think your fingers are little worms---LOL. Just kidding. If I am catching them to move into a different pen----some of the several week old ones do peck my hand but I pay it no attention-----so I guess with some breeds that's common!

Thanks Pd.... I want them to be nice!!! lol I thought about the worm possibility, so I would stay still... they don't care....

They seem to grow out of that Mood. The ones that pecked on me a few weeks back for example---now that they are on the ground---they just meet me for some feed and never seem to want to nibble.

They are just looking for treats, or food, or they are just curious. They are just babies learning about their world. Not pecking at you out of meanness. They don't have hands to touch you with, so they have to use their mouth.

Lately mine go straight for my rings while I'm changing out the water. I swear they think we are good for one thing only... food! I don't think all pecking equals mean, some is certainly begging, and some is curiosity.
