Hi Tara, I sent you a chicken genetics PDF I found on the net to your email address. I didn't know how to post it to this list but I thought it was pretty cool with a PowerPoint presentation. anyway I thought it was cool, you have a good day.

Tara it is full scale spring here, ALL the citrus trees are in full bloom and the smell is really intoxicating!
And look what I have decided to do!

I know what you mean about the smell. We have several citrus trees in our greenhouse; and right now it smells like Heaven in there.

You'll have to let us know how the distillation works out. We have Carolina Jasmine growing everywhere around here, and I am often tempted to try that when it's in bloom. It seems such a shame to only get to experience it for a few short weeks in the spring!

We traditionally use the first watery fraction of the distillation = orange flower water for our coffee or to fragrant pastry.
If you want only the essential oil you should do an methane separation of the hydrophobic oils from the orange flowers water.
I from 1 liter of flowers and 200 ml of water got A WONDERFUL 100 cc of orange flower water that I now enjoy in my coffee!

Tara ,
why does the male chantecler have such a long tail ?
I don't understand why it needs such a long tail . is it just the Leghorn showing up or is there a reason why the tail is so long? I have searched all over the net and through literature and I can't find a reason. is it just for show ? Is the longer tail related to the slope in the back topline? As a general breed hallmark if the back were more level , would the tail be shorter? I don't remember seeing any breeds with a level Top Line like the Sussex or the Rhode Island red with a tail like a breed like the chantecler which has a more slope to the back .

so do breeds with a More Level back have a less long tail and breeds with more slope in their back have a longer tail?
Thanks,
Karen

It looks like your spring might have sprung already.

I doubt you both would know what significance these comments would have.

First day of Spring...it SPRANG but it sprung a SPLAT...of major magnitudes.

March 31, 2017 - Ring side after judging, Kathy said she wanted to use my camera to take a few clicks
I am always clicking pics of the other dogs and owners... Love my photos, eh!

I am mid dog show mode, so good news first or last...how about first to set the tone.

Lace is SO cute...Love Bug indeed...won't even stand for another click...she wants ATTENTION
"Hi Ma! I done GOOD...love and hugs please...more please!"
She did so majorly well...I so hold my dogs back...hee hee

Lacy took Winners for one more point (and Best Opposite to the Specials blue male that has only five more points to finish his GRAND Championship!) to add to her seven the Kid put on her...making her at eight points of the ten required for CKC Conformation Championship.

Lacy reclining and watching the show unfold from her chosen spot

Good...two more days, today and tomorrow. I won't tempt fate too much in saying, she "could" finish this weekend. Today, there is a Finnish judge and tomorrow, a judge from Edmonton. Who knows but I shall try my best to show her at her best. She is GORGEOUS right now...just at the point where she has a few whisps of hair loosening. But GORGEOUS full on beautiful and if a beauty contest is what a Dog show is...then so be it.

Pup in Pup Tent

Bought a literal PUP tent. Lacy adores it...puts her big butt (buns of steel that muscular gal has!) to the edge and the whole contraption with her in it near rolls on over...roll over, roll over, eh.

Thar's all our mobile dog show gear...the boo wagon that folds up,
the black collapsible chair in case the chairs are all taken (not likely at 8 a.m. start, but we show mid afternoon today!),
Lacy and a soft toy to amuse herself with, the pup tent and dog paw blankey.
We're camped out and dogging it!

All the comforts of home...so all we gotta do is relax (ha!) and do our bestest (we'll TRY!).

March 31st ribbon take for the Lace-a-Lot...plus one more POINT (8/10)

Ah those dog shows...lots of silliness and lots of fun!

Beautiful Australian import Parker at the dog show...Lacy and her are bumping chests for Winners ***** this weekend
and perhaps maybe even BREED if we think we can...

March 24, 2017 - We were still majorly iced up...
wee.gif

But things have quickly melted off, majorly...
yesss.gif

March 27, 2017 - three days later and it is floodsville

March 21, 2017 - The Miss Piggy Karate chop....

Lacy goes to the show, Emmy don't and I guess the Lace is feeling special, dominant...mean perhaps??
somad.gif

March 24, 2017 - the pretty girls...and me thinking, hmmm...mud and grit, dirt and we need to make sure to DIP Lacy...and she did get bathed and left quite the sediment in the first rinse in the rub a dub tub...

Dirt dogs...and those bellies...gackers!

Foam Domer is quite happy to just be a farm dog...
ya.gif

Mar 24, 2017 - "You girls need to worry about getting dirty (bath time??)...but I sure don't! Bwa ha ha!"

So pasture out front is pretty much frosted off and drained out. Spring rain and snow mixes predicted...usual April showers bring May flowers (or more like June here, but no complaints from I).

On Monday, cut out my newest dress pattern...green non-patterned ultra suede that matches the colour of moi eyes!

So that be the first half of the news...the what part? Now for the other part...
hu.gif

So guess what happened to Rick on March 21, after two weeks working six days, starting off the day at 3 a.m.? What could possibly have happened that has altered the course of our next six weeks....and then some?? Perhaps those with sharp eyes can see in these two photos...???
barnie.gif

What did I say last post about working way too much?
roll.png

I am off to see if I can finish sewing my show dress...and keep that Lacy outta the mud...she's due to get a belly bath which I am off to do now that both have had a small little breakfast and a long, long morning play floppy on the iciest part of the property (NO mud...no mud guppy bellies please!)...but so far, not a full on new bath...keeping the farm dogs clean is a major undertaking here at the ranch during spring!

I am MIA at the dog show...twice a year, may foolishness and dog hair scare reign supreme for the weekend...
