I'm just looking for some advice what to wear to my job interview. It is a part time cashier position at one of those new gas stations with the made-to-order food stations. I've had a retail jobs in the past, but have always just showed up in jeans and a tee shirt. This is the first job I've applied to that I don't know anyone, so I'm really not guaranteed a position like before. I'm meeting the HR woman at the corporate office for the interview.

What the heck should I wear? I don't want to be too overdressed, but don't want to be under-dressed. I don't want to show up looking like I think I'm better than them, but I really need a summer job. I had planned on wearing an expensive pair of dark wash jeans, short black pumps, and a nice top. However, I'm not too sure if that is appropriate for an office interview. I have black slacks, but no real top to match with it. Thank you for any help.

I would just wear something casual..
The dark wash jeans sound fine. Just be neat and clean and on time...
Which i'm sure you will be.. ;)
If you have another pair of pants that arent jeans,..but not too dressy either,.... that would be a good idea too...
Good luck! :)

I am old so I have to go against what Red said. NO JEANS! Nice pants, preferably black with a nice top, flat shoes, subtle make-up. It says you are about the interview to show up more dressed up than down (Sorry Red). Nothing too low cut, pants not too tight, no muffin top. Wear something that fits correctly. Very little jewelry. Smile - ALWAYS. Notice your surroundings too. Comment on posters or things that are company related.

Good luck!!!!

PS - I work in HR, amongst other departments, but then again I am old.

I'll second debiraymond....Slacks and a nice shirt. knee-high nylons and flats or 1-in. heels. Earrings if you have them and little else jewelrywise. A nice clutch purse or something similarly unobtrusive for wallet/keys/phone (turn it off!). Hair pulled back into ponytail or bun (a must for an establishment with food service). Easy on the make-up - neutral shades. Bring a copy of your resume and reference info in a portfolio. Ask for her business card before leaving so you can send a thank you note afterward.

You want to look nice (first impressions and all)., but a suit would be overkill, and jeans are not enough...

Good luck!!

just realized I'm too late for the OP, but I hope the info will help others.
Cheers :)

It went really well. Turns out it was Casual Friday so I was more dressed up than the entire office. I'll know if I got the job sometime this week.
