Now that my 9 hens and 1 rooster are pretty much self sustained in their current space, I wanted to add some ducks. Silly me stopped at the farm store to get feed and ended up getting 5 ducklings and 1 six month old drake.

When I got them home I tried to put them all together but the drake kept snapping at the ducklings when they tried to drink. He went in to the larger mobile pen I have. New coop is being built in a 50x30 fenced area I have in my back 3 acres of land. Figure that will be plenty of room for everything. By the time that is done the ducklings will be ready to be outside. Only concern is there is a .25 acre pond right near the area and I know there is turtles in it as my dogs got a large snapper earlier this year. Will have to dig down the fence on the side of the pond possible.

We have 2 mature Muscovy and a Pekin Duck! The muscovies just hatched 10 ducklings about 2 weeks ago. Had to nurse two of them as we think they hatched prematurely and were wry necked and weak. The couldn’t support themselves, their legs wouldn’t stay underneath them. Ultimately gave them back to momma after a week and now we have 13 ducks along with our 33 chickens
