Hi everyone! I'm a fan of this site after browsing the web for all chicken-related shenanigans. I started with 6 meat chickens from Tractor Supply this spring and successfully incubated and hatched 5 of their chicks. I purchased a few copper Maran and Orpington chicks that are finally laying. My favorite chicken is my black silkie, Pom Pom and I have about 10 silkies so far. I probably have about 40-50 in my flock at this point.
I love raising chickens because they're so entertaining to watch. I could spend all day tending to them and working on the coop and runs, but work keeps me from being in there 24/7. I open the doors to their runs every day so they can free range and they know to return when it's dusk. I just have to do a quick headcount and lock the doors. I'm collecting about 6-8 eggs a day and when all of the 45-ish hens lay, I'll definitely be selling fresh eggs every day. It's a great side hustle honestly and I'm just happy I sold my third dozen of eggs today.
I like to read, write, play rhythm guitar, ride my motorcycle and bake. I'm in IT so I guess it's nice to have hobbies that let me really detach. I'm really considering getting some land and building my own cabin. Born and raised in the city, I've always longed for quiet and a place where I can actually see the stars.
I'm glad I finally joined. The posts really helped me with my chickens and I'm glad to be around likeminded folks.
