(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new, personally, to owning chickens and got our first chicks this year. However, my husband's family have always had chickens so he's familiar with them.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We currently have a total of 35. We have both meat and egg chickens.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Meat birds: Cornish Crosses and Western Rustic
Egg hens: Lavender Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, and a Barred Rock.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I like having control over some of our food and providing for our family. I also love the personalities of the chickens and hanging out with them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, weaving, gardening, and hanging out with my doggo.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm an author, so I work from home. I'm married and my husband and I have a son. We have a dog, and our goal has always been to eventually get land of our own. My goal is raise goats or sheep and get into textiles.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Googling chicken questions and through reddit. Joining because I’ve wanted to reply to some posts so I've finally sat down and signed up.
