Hello all!!

I am somewhat new to chickens, the knowledge I have is all second hand from living with someone who had chickens. Luckily my S.O. had chickens throughout most of his young life. We just started our own flock!! I'm super excited! We are starting our flock at 16, we bought our chicks from TSC. Our flock includes Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, ISA Browns, RIRs and Black Australorps. I am anxiously waiting to find out how many hens and roos we have! I have been looking up things about chickens and kept finding this page so I decided to join this wonderful community.

You can post your chicks (individual photos are best) at "what breed or gender is this?" and they will sort them out for you. 6-8 weeks is the best age for doing so.

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us and congrats on your own flock!

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/category/learning-center.11/ and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

Thanks I might just do that after they take a dirt bath or two haha! It has been raining off and on for the last two weeks pretty much so they are kind muddy. I actually spent hours reading others posts on that thread, its part of the reason I joined!

:welcome from another Virginian!

Thanks!!

Thanks! Cool to know that there are state specific threads. Everyone seems very friendly, welcoming and really helpful.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

So glad you could join our community!! You have some wonderful breeds in your flock! The Buff Orps and Black Australorps are a wonderful breed to keep. VERY docile, very hardy in all respects and super friendly! Hope you enjoy chickens sitting on your lap because the Orps are HUGE on warming laps. :)

Enjoy all your poultry adventures and welcome to our roost! :)
