Name is Kenneth, 47 & married. We live in the countryside on a lovely farm where we have 2 Dougue de Bordeaux (used to have 5) and our Buff Orpingtons. We have currently 1 rooster and 4 hens and another 9 chicks 4 weeks old. (Mainly blue & black orpingtons). I have had chickens for many years and they are free ranging here on the farm exsept this this time of year due to harvesting and a lot of foxes in the area.... saw a big one close to the house today.....SO are in process of building a new coop with concrete floors etc... :)

Hi there! Predators stink!
Welcome to BYC.
This video should help you find your way around the site better, enjoy!

Hi :welcome Kenneth

Glad you could join us here! Foxes are a problem over here too in the UK. I hope your coop and concrete floor plans go well to keep your birds safe.

Enjoy your time here on BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC!

Always fun to see comments from the international community.

Good luck with your new coop. Yes, I agree predators are a problem for us all. (Mine, in wet Oregon, is hawks...they love fly by chicken dinners).

Nice breed of dog...tell your doggies to keep a look out for that fox while you get the coop ready! (My Rat Terrier does a good job on the rats I have around here).

Feel free to share some pictures of your flock...and dogs too!

A few images from the dogues and chicks. Mainly blue Orpingtons. They have a okay coop but in a progress of building a new home for them. I once also saw a hawk trying to get airborne with one of our hens but he gave up... If everything goes well the roof should be on the coop soon and the flock able to move in :)

Welcome! My husband and I are also 47, we've always wanted to see your country! We finally bought a 3 acre farm last year and are working out all the kinks, we have many chickens including blue and lavender orpingtons, geese, ducks and turkeys; foxes and skunks are a big problem here so we have livestock guardians of alpacas and llamas.
