(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Our families had urban backyard chickens when we were kids in the 80s. But we weren't caretakers then, so we are basically newbies.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Planning on 3-4 laying hens. Feed store is getting them in a couple of weeks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Most interested in Orpington, Australorp - dual purpose and good around kids.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Looking forward to eggs & bug reduction and learning opportunities for the kids.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Knitting, ukulele, traditional/nourishing/from-scratch cooking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
Found the Mama Hen DIY brooder thread a few days ago and it is so awesome, I wanted to join the BYC flock.
