Hello. Joining today. We have 11 hens in a town setting. Sposed to cap at 3 or 4, but yknow chicken math 😜
I have a sick lavender orpington that I'll go post about shortly. We have 3 of the lavenders. They are 4 years old.
We have 1 5yo barred rock, 3 gold lace wyandots, 3 sex links that were born last summer, and a rescue wyandot. Parents were silver lace wyandots, but their offspring dont bare true. She's just Blackie to us
We dont generally name or treat our hens as pets the same way we do our dogs and cats. Theyre just "the flock" with some stand out personalities of course.
We keep them for eggs and eventually chicken broth.
Im prepared for the feedback on that. Ive read thru the forums a bit.
Thanks for having this helpful site. I do need some support with a green who has some kind of illness šŸ¤’
I want to see if I can get her set right

:frow Hi, welcome! Sounds like you have a lovely flock! And don't worry about any "feedback" around here, plenty of us raise chickens for meat as well as for eggs, or, like you, for dual purpose. That's what homesteading is all about after all. Like you, I've named some of mine and some, not. Named or not, they bring me joy. Maybe I should just name them all Joy, lol. Anyway, thanks for joining! Hope to see you around. šŸ˜‰

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Yep, @BigBlueHen53 is right. No worries. We even have a meatbird forum here. We personally don't eat our birds, but lots of people here do.

I hope your hen gets back to herself!

We're glad you're here!
