July 13, 2011 Hatch Day! STARTED!!!!

YES, I am NOT due until Wednesday so I was super surprised!

The little leghorn has even progressed and pushed a little more shell out too and I'm sure it's her peeping. I thought maybe I was hearing things but the kids have both heard it and I just went back and listened and she's still peeping up a storm, at least I think it's that one!

The 3 duck eggs still just have the mild bust outs, the shells have not been broke away yet like the leghorn.

SO EXCITED!

That is awesome! Will you post pics when your babies arrive???? I'd love to see newly hatched ducklings. Actually, I'd like to hatch a few out myself next spring.

Yayyy! Love babies! We used to have ducks and I LOVED them. We haven't gotten back into them because they make such a mess out of the water/food. I'm seriously contemplating getting some again. They are so blinkin' cute!

Oh I hope you get lots of healthy fluffy babies! You even got out of 2 extra days of worrying lol
So you just put them in lockdown yesterday?

I am putting 2 in lockdown when I get home from work. Having trouble keeping the temperature regular in my homemade one for the hatching. Going from 93 to 102. Can't get humidity up higher than 50 something but the glass window sure does get moisture on it. Is that a good thing or bad thing. I am here in southeast Texas.

Oh but aren't they? I can clean the whole set up just spotless and those bratty muscovys just come in and make a heck of a mess in no time, I didn't think anything could be more of a poop machine than the chickens but those ducks take the cake. My husband thinks I'm nuts for wanting more but I want some that QUACK!

Yes, I put them into lockdown yesterday AM and I did see a lot of movement throughout the day, wiggly eggs and a few rollers

I was really surprised! Then this AM had a few PIPPERs (is that what I call it? haha) and plenty of chirping whether it's one noisy one or a couple/few...

My one lonely little Leghorn is doing most of the action but nothing really new since a little chip more broke off a few hours ago. More rollers/wigglers going on though, I have one turkey that's been doing all kinds of wiggling since I took it off the turner yesterday.

Have you candled them if the temp been fluctuating like that the whole time? I think you need to get the humidity up to about 60% at least for lockdown, mine is between 75 - 78% because I have the duck eggs in there. What are you using for moisture? I'm sure the worst thing about moisture on the glass is not being able to see what's going on...I don't have any on mine... hmmmm....

Good luck djennings, I want to hear how you make out.

Well it's been all day... the little leghorn broke off a bigger piece this afternoon (it's about a 1/3 of an inch in diameter now) and one of the ducks finally broke through and another just added a few more dents!

I'm SO impatient!

I am sitting across the room and can the peep-fest going one over there...

Candled my eggs for last time tonight. They r now on lockdown. 1 was determined a quitter. The other 7 were alive and kicking! My little boys got to see it. Soo cool. Thursday or friday should be the day
