July 18th "Due Date"! Anyone else?

My BPR "Boo" laid our first egg on 12/11. Here is a picture of the egg

and of Boo sitting in the "Bucket Nest". That's how I knew who laid it but she had been in and out of the boxes for 2 days.

Since then (as of yesterday) we have found 7 more eggs but I only know who laid one of those because it was white and our White Leghorn had been in and out of the nesting boxes for the previous 2 days.

That's great, lroth!
My 5 girls are stepping up the pace a bit--For awhile only my Cuckoo Marans was laying, but now it looks like 2 more have joined in--I think it's my Faverolles (light brown eggs) and my Black Copper Marans.
Yesterday I got 3 eggs!!
I'm happy to see that my BCM egg is very dark--it confirms that MPC did send me a BCM and not an Australorp

She is a beauty, but she doesn't have a single speck of copper anywhere--she's completely beetle-black (irridescent green sheen).
All of my eggs are small, though. Wonder if/when they will increase in size?

I think they do get bigger over time. They probably wouldn't be ready to "pass" a big egg yet!!

We are getting an average of 2 eggs a day, but we only have 9 girls that have the 7/18 hatch day and I am sure that the Polish and the Hamburg are not laying yet. Both are supposed to lay small/medium white eggs.

I feel very blessed that:

#1 - We have had 9 eggs so far since Sunday (my BR just laid another one this morning)
#2 - We had just finished the laying boxes on SATURDAY 9/10!!!!
#3 - We had SERIOUS delays with finishing & securing the coop so we moved 1/2 our 19 birds in on Thursday, 12/1, and the rest on Friday 12/2!!!!!!
#4 - On the 9th and 10th the overnight lows were 16 degrees (F) and 10 degrees respectively

Seriously, I thought it would be spring before we would see any eggs at all.

God IS GOOD!!!!

It took about a month for the eggs from my Australorps (hatched March 1, begin laying July 22) to consistently reach "medium" size and a few more weeks to reach "large" size. This was in prime laying season, though, and from the beginning the eggs from my BAs were much larger than the ones I am getting from my barred rock girls and the one BO girl that is laying. My very first eggs from my BAs weighed from 1.6 ounces to 1.75 ounces and I only twice had any less than 1.4 ounces. The most any of the new eggs have weighed is 1.31 ounces and the one I got yesterday weighed 1.21 ounces--very tiny. I have never had BRs before, and I remember my friend got very small eggs from her BR girls at first--she said they were only big enough for a mouse's breakfast!

I am just grateful to be getting eggs this soon in late fall/early winter to care if they are small. The first small ones are still the very best tasting of all. Even though my girls are all eating the same diet, the small pullet eggs have darker yolks and the yolk and whites are firmer than the large eggs from my older girls.

He sure is! I was prepared to wait out the winter before seeing any eggs, too.
It's been fairly mild here in NJ, though, so that's helped, I guess.
I just cannot get used to it--every egg I find is like an exquisite gift! I hope I never start taking them for granted

Every morning when I walk in the coop I say "Good morning Ladies, anyone left a present for me today???"

Sometimes I think I earn the title "Crazy Chicken Lady" !!!

My, how time flies! My 4BR and 4BO have had an uneventful first few months (from the human perspective). No eggs yet, but everyone is getting plenty red in the comb, and their wattles are well-developed. I still can't determine who is a hen or roo with certainty, but am resonably sure that there is a single roo. Only crowing will tell!

It's nice to hear that some of you are getting eggs. Like others I had figured that things would be delayed a bit by the onset of winter.

Yeah so I am wondering if any of you who ordered a Golden Laced Wyandotte from MPC ended up with green eggs. I have just posted a thread because my GL W has laid 3 green eggs since Christmas and apparently she is not a GLW but an EE.

I don't really care, I love her AND her green eggs, but I am wondering if any of you have had the same experience.

Here is the thread if you want to read more about it. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=613540

I received two GLW from MPC. They are definitely GLW. I know you love your girls but I would still call MPC and let them know what happened. They need to know if their orders are messed up.
