July Hatch-a-long

Great stuff! Yes, broodies rule! I tried to get them to go broody weeks ago. No dice. I figured if they don't go broody now, they probably won't this year. 2 weeks later, my younger hen goes broody then her sister the next day! Their broody foster mom last year has yet to go broody. Go fig, but I love them!
right now I only have 3 hens. 2 of which are laying the other one has yet to lay so I am thinking she is still a pullet. thing about mine..... I had the 2 hens that are laying in the same pen well when my 2 stags started pen fighting they made a gap in the door of the one pen big enough for the one hen to get out and that's when the other one decided to go broody. I think it helped when the other hen got out of there...

did that make any sense?????? lol

Have any of the others pipped? the chicks are still in the incubator? I would remove the dead one and the healthy one(s) if none of the others have pipped and leave the others to keep working, but I'm really new at this.

I had to help both my chicks (pipped at the wrong end and 36 hours of trying). I opened the window in the incubator to take out the first one to help her and the second had pipped, but there wasn't an alternative. I did moisten the membrane on the second chick with a tiny bit of water on a q-tip -- not enough to drip, just enough to dampen it. I didn't want to take a chance that I would let it dry out.
One of my chicks died over night. What do I do. Should I still not open? Last six eggs core no movement.

I have 10 others doing fine all in the bator. Not even a pip or peep from other 6.

I tend to fly by the seat of my pants, but I sure wouldn't leave the dead one in there. At incubation temp, it could get ugly fast. The live ones? I would probably take them out as quickly as possible and leave the eggs a few more days, but that has to be your call. Lots of people say not to open the incubator for any reason once they start hatching.
Yes I am only on day 22.
