JULY HATCH ALONG!!

Seven of my light sussex cross silkie's will be hatching on the 28th of July!!! I'm so excited!
Has anybody ever used the technique where you look at the shape of the egg to determine the sex of the chick? This is my first time doing it, so hopefully I will be getting all girls

I would have liked another rooster, but sadly I already have one!

The scientific literature suggests that egg shape is breed specific, inherited from the hen's father, and may vary seasonally. So don't choose only round eggs to put in your incubator and assume you won't end up with a rooster --- chances are that 50% of those eggs will hatch into males.http://www.avianaquamiser.com/posts/Does_chicken_egg_shape_determine_chick_sex__63__/

There is no way to tell the difference between an egg that will hatch a female chick and an egg that will hatch a male chick

Never heard about it? How does it works and how accurate it is?
Thanks,
Glenda
Apparently the more rounded the egg, the more likely it is going to be a hen. But if it is more pointed then it might be a rooster.

I have heard different, my mother's friend has been breeding chickens for 20 years and he says that it defiantly works, and has proof that it does! So I'm going to have to find out for myself.

Maybe this 'theory' works for some and not for others.- http://www.tillysnest.com/2011/11/are-you-boy-or-girl-egg.html

Does it work for duck eggs?

Just candled my 14 shipped Serama eggs and I saw at least 6 that had movement. This is my first hatch and hand at candling so I could be that some of the others have life but it looked like the yoke was all to one side in a big blob I will leave them for now and candle again in a few days to see it anything has changed.
