Ok I have a few questions please.
#1 . Are pairs really a better idea , I have one male with one female in two groups the one group is ok he mates her some times and she has started laying eggs everything seems good. BUt the other set He chases her constantly trying to mate her I mean ALL the time and she is freaking out and trying to get away and always escapeing the cage and thumping her head on the top of it ect but he never leaves her alone. She hasnt started laying yet and is the same age almost 8 weeks. Would he do better with a couple girls so she can have a break or should I just try to find a more docile female or less horny male?
#2 Should I be worried that my 8 week old is not laying eggs yet ?
#3 How do you get dirt out of the feathers . I let my quail dust bath in a box of potting soil and when he isnt asulting his female he was bathing in the dirt and my bright white male quail is now a dark gray brown color I tried just washing him in warm water with mild soap and it didnt get the stain out of his feather at all.\
Thanks
This is him white
This is him after his bath he was even darker befor it .. He really gets into it even his toes and nostrals are stained lol
And just becuase its purty , the first egg I found in the other pairs cage.

I'd get rid of the randy roo and put the other female with your other set and see how they get along.

Don't bathe your birds. They regulate their temperature by fluffing their inner feathers out and if those get wet, they can't get cool and can die from heat exhaustion. Just let him be dirty. My birds are dirty but they're happy and healthy. They will clean their feathers if they feel like it.

My roo, whom I like more than any of the hens, was attempting to kill the new hens that I wanted him to cross with. I pulled out his favorites, which are the wrong color, sold them and stuck him in a cat kennel overnight in the dark shed. Now that he knows who is in charge around here he is a gentleman and is welcoming all the new hens I will give him.
