Hello so I need some advice , I went to check on my female quail and she’s lost most her feathers near the top of her head , almost looked been plucked , could it be because my other male quail is trying to mount her to much as when they mate he pulls her back and obviously does his thing or is it somthing else , I’m really worried , apart from that everything seems fine ,

Yes, quail do go bald from over mating! what is the female to male ratio?

I only have 2 as that’s how many survived , I’m not able to add anymore at this time it’s 1 male and 1 female , is there any other options for him to calm down , should i separate them
She is likely being over mated and personably I don’t know if it’s better to separate them or let her possibly get hurt but if you keep them together make sure they have lots of hiding places and space so that she can escape if possible!

Ok thank you , is there no way to calm my male like supplements or somthing

She is definitely being over bred. Your ratio is dangerously off. If you do not get more hens for your male, he will continue to over breed her until she becomes injured or even killed.

Extra hiding places may help, but it may not. Is there anyone in your area where you can get more hens? Your other choice may be to separate them so they can see and hear each other but she gets enough of a break from him to heal.

I can’t separate them so they can see each other I don’t have like glass pane or anything, I would have to separate till she recovers that’s the only option I have at the moment

Howdy! My hens are getting spots also... Well, with moulting season and heat season coming in, I'd add more sources of cal vit a and e (Jade grubs). I also put a turned-over dead bush so that the Hen has a safe spot but can still be seen by the roo. kinda like the dust mop for chicks.... Protects the Rump a little. hope it helps
