My Marans just staring laying eggs in mid January. Most the eggs weigh an average of 65 grams, but I got a whopper at 84 grams today.
Is this a double yoke?

Can't answer your question... but it'd be neat to see a pic of your whopper! I so want to hatch a few BCM eggs, but need to focus on building another coop first.

I got one today that is 99 grams! That is probably the largest one I've ever had, though a couple years ago, I did get one that large. It had one yolk with 3 blastodiscs on it. This one in my kitchen right now probably has a couple at least.

99 grams - WOW! Do you know what breed layed it?

I got an 82 gram from my White Leghorn a couple of days ago. I was shocked at how big it was. The smallest bird in the flock laid the largest egg. She has layed other big ones in the past that I did not weigh but I think this is her biggest.

Hi,

I can't answer your question, as I've gotten some very large ones that only had a single yolk. Today, I got the largest ever, at 105 grams or about 3.7 ounces! I actually went and double-checked the pullet (yes, it was a pullet that laid it, just about 10 months old) later on in the day to see if she was okay, which she was. I haven't broken it open yet to see what's in it. I have one EE that doesn't lay green eggs (she lays ones that are close to ivory) and she's the one that laid it. Guess she's trying to make up for not laying green eggs! Good luck--hope you got a double yolk!
