Hello. always wanted chickens but building or buying a coop was beyond me and acuiring the chickens was a little overwhelming. However, an ad on craigs list for 6 free chickens and their coop sucked me in. 8 pm- losing light I get to the gentlemans house with my friends truck and we load the coop and opps he miscounted-there are actually 12 chickens. catch is I only have a 4x4 kennel for them for the weekand the coop is huge-much larger than my friends. So i make a phone call and offer to barter some chickens for muscle power. Another friend comes over and at 11 30 at night we are sorting chickens. That was only this past Mon and what a whirlwind. I kept 6 hens and the roo "Bud" and she took 5 hens. 24 eggs (and an extra rooster he forgot to mention) later I am having a blast. The extra rooster had gone to the other girl in the work barter and I have the one that was chasing kids with the previous owner. I can ramble with the best of them so i will stop here and spend some time reading. I need to get the rest of my guys indentified and keep on keeping on.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! That was an interesting introduction to chicken keeping! Glad you got everybody and everything sorted out, and congratulations on the eggs already. Yes, Chicken Math often leads to an inability to count your chickens.
