Hey everyone!
At the moment I wanna rush through this introduction because I have a question about a chick hatching in progress that I want to ask you all about ASAP! So forgive me if I just grab the intro template and jump in...

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I grew up with chickens as a kid, in a very remote area of the world with no cars, roads, or internet. So my family raised chickens very much the old fashioned way, with no incubator, brooder, fences, medications, or wealth of knowledge from others. We raised them for meat and eggs. I actually had hens literally laying eggs into my hand when I was around age 7!

I haven't had chickens since we moved at age 9, and now I am incubating my very first chickens. It's day 21 and action has begun. <3

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

8 eggs in the incubator, but I shouldn't count my chickens before they hatch now should I? ;)

(3) What breeds do you have?

The eggs are 2 each of french black copper maran, fibro blue, double silver laced barnevelder, and moss eggers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

The joy of watching them! Great eggs is a bonus.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My biggest hobby and occupation right now is my miracle of a toddler. <3 I also attempt gardening every year and learn a little more each time.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I've heard about you from various people, and now that I have questions of my own it's motivated me to sign up!

Welcome to BYC!!

Love your childhood memory of having eggs laid right in your hand -- so very cool.

We also raised chickens "the old fashioned way" when I was a kid. My dad had a business next door to our house, and customers got a kick out of a hen who dutifully came in and laid her eggs right on top of his work bench. Other chickens ended up in the freezer, but that clever Shirley got a lifetime pass.

Sounds like you have a beautiful, diverse flock.

Best wishes with your hatch, and welcome to BYC!
