some say to leave it in till all the rest hatch but I leave them in for about 1 hour

The only danger in removing them is losing humidity when you open the incubator and inadvertently shrink-wrapping any pipped eggs you might not know about. A serious concern, imo, as they dry out FAST. There is no real danger to leaving them in the incubator.

Many of the problems with my last hatch I believe can be attributed to temporary losses of humidity. My own fault and I now wish I'd just left them alone.

Congrats on your first hatcher!

I leave mine in until my hatch is done... Usually wraps up pretty quickly. They have the absorption of their yolk sac so they are good for a few days if necessary. Everyone will find what works best for them ...I like to leave the humidity in.

Hello, first time hatcher here, with shipped eggs and a borrowed incubator (I know, I'm already doomed ), at what stage in the incubation can you candle and definitively toss out bad eggs? To my untrained eyes at day 7, I see 4/29 that have veins and a few more that I'm not sure about.

If it was me I would wait a little bit longer. Usually day 10, 15 or so....unless they are oozy or stinky. The ones that don't develop will look ombré .

I wouldn't toss anything until at least day 10. Day 14 would even be acceptable for a one-time viability check, to toss anything questionable before lockdown. Like Purpletie3 says, toss anything oozy or stinky asap, otherwise, I would wait it out a bit. I candled obsessively the first two times and If I had gone by a day 7 check, I'd have tossed out several eggs that later hatched. Sometimes those little veins are shy and sneaky!

So how soon do non-viable eggs start to go bad? And you can smell them? If they're rotten can they explode on you easily when you handle them? Or do they explode from the pressure of the hen? (Sorry for my millions of questions LOL)
