June hatch-a-long

7 in brooder, napoleon is in the left corner.

Below in the incubator, 2 hatched chicks, 2 in egg.

Last 2 Fern, and Sage are out. They are still in incubator though.
The last 2 were sticky. Well Fern was. It was hard getting the sticky off. She suffered 2 baths yesterday. Pics soon. 11 total.

Poor Fern is the sticky one on top, Sage is the one on the bottom.

Fern and sage are in a separate brooder for now... she will get another bath today. the rest of the 9 are in a brooder with 2 older chicks from a different hatch.

it's hard to tell from this lighting, but the chick below is gray.

Fern got all her sticky washed off. She thinks she is a little boss hen. She is now in with the other chicks all 11 doing fine.

I think the gray hen was the gray chick from this hatch along.

She laid her first egg tha green one. I have it next to a white store egg so you can see the difference. Good size for a first egg.

We just started getting periodic eggs from our July hatchlings. 5 so far. Our May hatchlings have not laid any yet. We think the layers are some oddball birds that we’re purchased as Barred Rock fertile eggs but 4 hatched and are all black now. Not a bar insight.

They may be a bigger breed, the larger chickens lay later.

This morning, the gray hen squatted for me, instead of running away. We had a moment.
