If you saw my previous thread- I hatched a lone peachick.
It'll be 2 weeks old tomorrow.
It's two siblings have hatched, one I believe y'all refer to as black shoulder?
Hatched from an Indian blue hen's egg.
The owner's two cocks are a purple spalding and indian blue. The other two chicks looks Indian blue, so I have a feeling the indian blue the father of this blackshoulder looking one. (And I read that blackshoulder's happen with Indian blues sometimes? )
I'm quite proud of myself for successfully hatching all 3 eggs, since apparently they can difficult to hatch out? Especially since the first peachick hatched during a power outage.

The first peachick imprinted hard. Follows me around like a puppy and at first it only ate by hand.
It's VERY flighty. But I love taking it for a walk around the yard, I think it does too. It also favors grasshoppers and blueberries and looks forward to receiving them from me every trip.
The other two peachicks, well- They'll be a week old Saturday.
The black shoulder wants to snuggle up more than anything, but doesn't care for being handfed as much and won't follow as easy.
The other Indian blue hasn't had much bonding time as it had a really bad curled foot problem, it wore a temporary splint for 5 days, now he just has a little boot for toe correction. But even he is starting to want a lot of attention.
-
Is it normal for any young peachick to blow up like a tom turkey and shake their tail like they're courting others? The oldest peachick did just that to the other Indian blue today, which that Indian blue sorta just looked at it like, "Uhh, okayy??"

In short, I'm excited about raising peafowl.

Oh also, the duct tape is over medical tape, supported by a cardboard cut-out.

Congratulations! They are lovely. Yes, it's normal for them to fan their little tails at each other and at everything else they see. It's so cute!
