Hello and welcome from Tennesee! Congratulations on getting back into chickens. They are the best. I've only had mine for two years, but can't imagine not having them now.

What kind of dogs and reptiles do you have?

We are overrun with beasties here. We have two German Shepherds, a cat, chickens, quail, two American Guinea hogs, and a rabbit--with goats coming at the end of May.

I don't know where you are located, but some of the larger hatcheries will ship small orders now. Cackle, for instance has several assortments for the backyard. Mypetchicken is expensive but everyone seems to love their customer service.
Buying pullets from a hatchery or farm store increases your chances of getting females. Most small operations don't sell sexed chicks.
