Do a search on the duck forum for posts by Resolution he claimed to have done a lot of research but the ducks that muscovy can breed with are very rare.

They do all the time but nothing comes of it. The genes need to be fairly similiar to produce new life. People and apes are close but do you see any offspring?

I have a Emden gander who is a mate of a Muscovy hen, can't help it guys thats just the way it is, I have always been afraid to hatch one of her eggs because I never knew if any thing would come of it or if it did would it be deformed. When she wants to brood I take her eggs.

There are duckxgoose hybrids, i.e :

Poulsen, H. 1950. Morphological and ethological notes on a hybrid between a domestic duck and a domestic goose. Behaviour 3:99-104.

Checking Gray's Hybrid book shows alot of hybrids between ducks and geese. Muscovies are listed as having hybridized with 16 other species, including European shelduck, Egyptian goose, swan goose, spru-winged goose, and comb ducks. Delacour is the source for Resolution's reference to domestic muscovies including comb duck genes. I can find no other reference, and checked the comb-duck duckling description to see if that could account for the dusky ducklings, but it doesn't.

I'm not sure of the fertility of all the hybrids, I'll have to check the original references, and that's often lacking because most don't try to breed the hybrids.

Miss Lydia, you should start incubating and see if any are fertile! But, I can understand why you wouldn't want to hatch them, though. I think the hatching rate would be low to non-existent, anyway. I have heard that the hatch time of geese and Muscovies are similar.

My Muscovy actually hatched this Emden gander, we gave her the egg she sat on it.

I may consider giving one of her eggs to one of my younger hens if she lays this next season, she is going on 8 now not sure how long they lay.
