I have 6 ducklings, 3 are Pekin and 3 are Rouen. They were straight run so not sure about their sex. I'm just curious about how old are they when they get their quack? They are 2 weeks at the moment and while they still mostly higher pitched "peep", for lack of a better term. Almost sounds like a fast "hoo-HOO!", but I call it a peep. Lately I've noticed some other sounds coming from them. Especially when they get excited. I'm hearing a lower pitch fast "wahn-wahn". Gosh I wish I could describe it better. I'm wondering if they are trying to find their voices, so to speak? I feel silly for trying to spell these noises out but I hope you duck owners know what I'm trying to say, LOL. And I've read that you can sex the ducks by voice. That the males will have a whisper/raspy quack. How early can you tell (on average of course)? I ask because when I pick up a couple of my ducklings, I swear when they complain the "peep peep peep" alarm sound, it sounds raspy compared to some of the others really loud piercing noise. But I am assuming that is just coincidental? Again, they are ONLY 2 weeks old. I need to buy one of those Stoney's books on ducks don't I?
Thx for any insight.
