Hi everyone;
Thanks for having such a great resource! I am a newbie at chicken raising and know little or nothing about it. My hubby, an Iowan farm boy, knows more but it looks like I'll be the primary caretaker.
We just brought home 10 Barred Rocks hens, 6 RIR hens, and 3 RIR roosters - though I think at least one of those roos will be going away.
I think they are about two weeks old as they have full wing and tail feathers and can fly short distances. They already will come up to me when I put my hand in their box (in my bathroom for now), and eat out of my hand and know my voice. We had to raise the sides of the box as they were flying up to roost on the edges of the box (about 8 inches, now about 18 inches).
I'm looking forward to learning a lot here!
Susan
