The roads could get impassable due to ice & snow depending on what state you reside in. If it is a bad winter it could also make it harder to get feed from the supply stores due to store delivery delays.[/FONT]

Thanks for providing this information Chris!I will agree with this that I quoted.
But this is a old wives tail.
Most "scratch" is high in corn and the corn is a high energy feed ingredient that is easily digested and it does not produce excess heat like fibrous ingredients (Whole Wheat, Alfalfa Meal, Whole Oats etc.) You would be far better off just feeding there regular chicken feed but if you fell the need to give them something extra give them Whole Oats.
