Ok,i have 5 red star pullets and im in the process of building my first coop, they have about 2-3 more weeks before they go outside. My question is since i have 5 is it necessary to install 5 nesting boxes?Any info or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, they'll share. I think it's 4-5 hens per nest box actually. I'd throw in 2 with 5 hens myself.

I have four hens and one nest box. It works fine. But I agree, with 5 hens, two boxes would probably be better. But they'll work it out. From time to time, I've even had two hens at once in my nest box.

The general rule is about 1 box per 4 hens. I have 6 hens and 2 boxes and they all use the same one. They feel safer laying where someone else already lays.
