After nearly 3 months without eggs, I decided that our family just couldn't go the winter without eggs. I'd much rather eat eggs from my own happy birds than from the grocery store (caged cramped unhappy birds), and pretend that perhaps we're in a warmer climate.

Anyways, I just put a light in the shed the chickens live in (and out!) and set it on a timer to come on from 2:30 am til 7:30 am when the sun comes up. The sun goes down about 4:30.

The girls molted back when they stopped laying.

So how long should we expect til we see eggs again?

Thanks much

It takes about 4 days to 2 weeks for them to strt laying again with the additional light depending on their age, breed etc.

Great!! I hope its sooner than later!!

They are brown egg hybrid chickens. We were told they are Babcock crosses, and I see that Babcock is a regular brown egg hybrid. They laid one egg a day each and sometimes more before they stopped laying. One is red speckled and one has some penciling on its feathers.

Does that mean anything?
