What did you do in the garden today?

my late autumn planted peas did not survive frost. ducks and geese enjoyed them. I should plant them again but not sure when. people here don't plant peas so no one can tell me. we are having some rain.
Peas germinate best in cool soil so the rule of thumb I've always heard is to plant as soon as the soil can be worked in late winter/early spring.

I have 7 breeding roosters and 6 more in a bachelor pen. Six of my breeding roos stay in my main coop with about 50 hens. The 7th roo stays in my duck coop with 4 other hens.

I don't have any problem with fighting. They will peck at each other in the yard if someone isn't respecting the personal space of a higher ranked roo... But my chickens also get to free range almost every day so that's usually not a problem.

So I've come to the conclusion that rooster fights only occur if they don't have enough space or enough hens to go around. Game roos aside. Totally different story.

We have a Maytag that is between 15-20 years old. It broke a month ago, so we looked at new ones..decided to just have parts ordered and have it fixed.. even if it only lasts couple more years I feel like it was worth it.. It has no extras and I love it. Nothing you buy today can come close to lasting that many years, get repaired and still go strong!
My Maytag W&D were bought at Sears in 1997. Never a sick day for the washer. The dryer OTOH had a couple of problems over the years. #1 - it was making a thunk-thunking sound a couple of years ago. $60 for the repairman to come out. It seems a sock had fallen into the lint trap and was being blown around in the exhaust. He removed the trap while the dryer was running and the sock shot out the tunnel and across the walkway outside. Mr lonely was sad he had to charge me but was glad I didn't have to replace it. He's no fan of the new stuff either. #2 - A few months ago the dryer wasn't heating. We replaced the $28 solenoid ourselves and back to perfectly dry and fluffy laundry.
