I had 2 buff orpintons and one died recently. I purchased 2 plymouth barred rocks about 14 weeks old. They are still gettting used to each other and don't really hang out together yet, but there really hasn't been any bullying or anything. My question is, the lady I bought them from had them in her coop with many other chickens. So, since they have been home they have been eating layer pellets, leftovers and free range stuff. Then I read that many people are still giving growing and medicated feed to their 14 week old chickens. Yikes! Do I need to give them medicated feed? And if I do, do I need to keep that feed away from my much older buff?

Thanks!

Give everyone chick starter, non medicated, and by the time you are done with the bag, go to layer. Put out some egg shells or oyster shell for you other hen, she will be the only one that eats it. As for scraps and free ranging they are plenty old enough
