Just adopted ducks in horrible condition

did you just say 30 duck IN THE HOUSE! or 30 ducks in total?? crying about ducks is pretty weird... at least she can know they are in better hands than hers..
30 IN THE HOUSE and she estimates 175 total on the property including geese and calls. According to her she used to have 150 in the house. I wish I was making this up.

Poor things!

That Bumblefoot will definitely take some to work to get rid of and more than likely they will have to molt before their feather condition improves back to normal. Looks like their nails will have to be trimmed too.
I trimmed some of the longest nails after I took pictures but didn't want to get too aggressive because they all though they were going to die on the spot when we picked them up and started taking pictures.

Probably best to do a little at a time, you wouldn't want to hit the quick and it can be quite painful for them when they are that long. I'd report the lady the sold you the birds, 150 birds in a house is just completely insane, I just bought some birds about a month ago that were about in the shape your birds are in, No feather around the eyes, gunk around the eyes, severe wet feather. Absolutely terrible how some people can treat their animals.

I plan on reporting her but I can't imagine that no one who has been buying birds from her (she's sold a couple hundred since last summer) hasn't reported her. We are in a pretty rural area and I got them across the river in Kentucky. I'm not hopeful that they'll do much of anything since they're considered "livestock".

hearing this makes me want to gag:th:sick. you should report her like right now. 30 in the house, 175 on the property... if my numbers add up right that is about 205 birds!!!! i never would want to visit her house. do you know if they just run free around her house or are they in some sort of pen? either way is disgusting... but yet i feel a little bad for her. does she have a name for some of her birds?

I feel bad for that little Pekin. Those bumbles look like they really hurt. Glad some of the nails got cut back to. Though I am sure they didn’t like it right then they will be happy with it once they realize how much easier walking will be without those claws.

I hope something gets done about the lady. These guys are in very sorry shape. But someTLC and lots of patients will have them feeling great in no time.

I would start the intensive BF care with the Pekin duck and there was another one where the inflammation almost looked overgrown. - For these two i would treat the BF really aggressive with Epsom salt soaking, carefully scratching away the dead tissue and puss, then putting Neosporin (even with Lidocaine is OK!).
The other feet i would - for now - just clean up and put up with Neosporin.
All my four White Layers had BF last fall, all at once and all on both feet. Only Bazilla Duck needed some invasive care, the others healed up pretty well after a few treatments with the Neosporin cream. Ducks are really amazing in healing themselves if you give them a chance!

That Duck-Lady - i really believe she loves all her birds to death (literally :() and she was really sad to see your's going away. Some people just can't delegate and think they have to save all the beloved animals. Have seen that with dogs, cats, snakes and parrots… She needs help and education and maybe a job.
