Hello crazy chicken people!
I'm still in the research and planning phase of my chicken adventures. It seems that every time I google a question about chickens, the backyardchickens forum pops up, so I thought it was time for me to join. I plan on having a mini flock of 6-8, (but never more than 12) polish and silkies... While eggs will be very nice, I mostly want the fertilizer. My friend had some silkies a few years ago that were friendlier than my cats and I just fell in love with them. Or maybe I just like funny looking chickens, I don't know.
I just bought my place in the pacific northwest, and while I am very much in love with my location, my particular site is pretty challenging. It is MOSTLY protected wetlands & home to many predatory birds in addition to my own escape-artist/killer-cat who once dragged in a wounded seagull! (ugh) I will sadly not be able to free-range so I'm planning a rather large coop and run. I live a "mostly vegan" lifestyle, but I'm really just a vegetarian who really hates factory farming.
I guess that's about it! Thanks in advance for all your help!
