Just ANOTHER Question

My 'girls' will be 8 weeks old tomorrow (10/28). That should put them at the early egg laying age somewhere around late January to mid-February. I know that the egg laying age varies from species to species and bird to bird. And I know that the amount of light, natural or artificial, is important once they come of age. So here's my question(s);

1) Will they will start laying at that age since it is their first egg laying "cycle?

2) Will their egg laying still be dependent on the amount of light they get?

I'm in about the same boat as our second batch of chickens hatched in June. Not sure how they will do laying over the winter as I thought my older group would slow down then. From a post I was reading earlier it takes 14 hours of light to produce an egg.

I've heard and read the same thing. Just curious if that still holds true for them at their first cycle of laying.
