Hi,

So glad to find this forum! Please let this serve as both an intro and a query.

I want to freerange 3-4 hens in my fenced-in garden (image of garden attached). I just bought a small, portable coop that I plan to move around the garden as needed. My garden is sloped, and filled with a variety of plants, just perfect for chickens. All the birds in the neighborhood come by to forage, and I never even put out birdseed. Now I just need some chicks. I called the place where my friend just bought hers, all excited to make my order. They said they weren't sure if they would be selling day-old chicks over the next month, given the circumstances.

So I am looking for suggestions on how to get about 4 (gendered) female day-old (or youngish) chicks, of different varieties, in the Philadelphia area. I am not willing to drive more than an hour out of town, and I have to make the purchase keeping 'social distancing' because I am high risk if I were to get COVID-19 (respiratory condition). Any suggestions?

The list I made of desired hens based on the other place's inventory was as follows:
1 each of Easter egger, Plymouth barred rock, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Mottled Houdan.

thanks!

You can order them on line, some hatcheries will ship as low as 3 Meyer is one but the shipping is pricey.. Tractor supply or any farm supply store most have them now, even rural king carries chicks..

You can order them online and they can ship them to you but on the side note your yard is beautiful but just watch out for hawks. I had a 2 month old free range chicken that got snatched by a hawk. Try to keep an owl decoy by to scare hawks.
